Simple Steps to Run Check Disk utility in GUI mode

Windows users need to run Check Disk tool every so often in order to check if hard disk is working correctly. CHKDSK is basically an in-built utility to check or repair our hard drive, bad sectors or any error if there in our volumes. It is a system tool in DOS, OS/2 and Windows operating system. When Check Disk is scheduled to run at reboot, it is called Autochk. It works with both FAT and NTFS file systems of WINDOWS OS. This post will explain the simplest way to run Check Disk in Graphical User Interface.

 

Why you need to run Check Disk tool

 

Check Disk utility inspects the physical structure of the disk. It also serves as an early warning that our hard drive is deteriorating. If CHKDSK starts finding bad sectors, then it is a sign that a drive may need replacing. Unfortunately, many hard drive failures are sudden. Check Disk is an important line of defense. It also creates and displays status report of the related drive. Besides, Check Disk tool can be run in every Windows OS like Win XP, Vista, 7, 8, 10, etc.

 

Steps to run Check Disk utility in GUI 

 

Check Disk utility can be executed as command-line or graphical Interface both. Meanwhile User can also execute it through command prompt by executing CHKDSK commands with parameters or through Graphical User Interface by directly clicking on the drive and selecting options. Check Disk tool is more simple when deployed through GUI mode hence here are steps to execute GUI mode of Check Disk utility.

Step 1- The first step is right click on a drive which need to be checked then go to its properties as shown below. Make sure all files are closed as Check Disk utility doesn't run when volume is in use.



Step 2- The next step is to select the tool tab then click on check to verify if there is any error in the file system.
  

Step 3-
After selecting the check button, below screen will appear which display a message 'if error is found or not' & asks you to scan the drive.


Step 4- Once you click on scan drive, a new screen will open which shows that Check Disk tool starts scanning the selected drive for file system error.


Step 5-
When scanning is completed you will see a new window that displays a message "Your drive was successfully scanned". You can either click on show details to see the result of Check Disk utility in an event viewer or click on close to exit.
